Most people exercise to keep fit or to lose weight; but what one must know is that with age comes stiffness and pain in the bones and joints. It is there fore necessary to keep the bones and joints flexible. So if you have yet not started exercising; now is a good time to start. Do not weight for all those age related problems. Prevent them instead.
Here are some easy exercises that will help prevent some problems. Begin by lying on your stomach. Keep your hands beside you and lift one leg up; just a little bit and hold it for a few seconds. Do this three times and repeat with the other leg. Now stand up and support your back against a wall.
Keep your hands on your hips and do what is known as wall squats. Using the wall as support bend your knees and lower your body till you are in a squatting position. Slowly get up again. Do this ten times.
Now lie on your back and bend the knees. Keep your hands under the knees and gently push your knees towards your chest. Do not lift your head while doing this exercise. Hold the pose and lower the legs ; but keep them bent and continue for ten to fifteen counts.
Now lie on the ground with your legs outstretched and lift one leg as much as you can. Hold the pose and repeat with the other leg. Do ten counts on each leg.
Once again stand straight and keep your hands on your lower back. With your hands supporting your back bend backward and feel the stretch on your back and hold the pose for a few seconds.
If during these exercises you experience any pain discontinue them and rest for a few days before starting again. As these are relatively simple there is a remote chance that you may get hurt.
Any pain may be due to some other ailment and not the exercise. Make this exercise programme a part of your routine to fight the problems of the bone and joints that may develop later in life.
