Exercises for Toning Thigh Muscles

Thigh muscles are some of the biggest sets of muscles in the body. Having flabby thighs can be very uncomfortable while walking. Thigh fat rubbing together can also cause rashes that can become infectious. Here are 5 exercises that anyone can do to tone their thighs:

1.    Dumbbell Lunges: these help tone your quads, inner-outer thighs and hamstrings. Hold a dumbbell in each hand, have your chest up and look straight. Your right foot should be far enough in front that when you bend your right knee, you form a right angle between your thigh and lower leg.

2.    Leg Extensions: these require a leg extension machine; however help define the shape of your thighs. You need to have straight knees for which you need to sit straight and extend your legs. Raise the weight all the way up, lock and hold for 3 seconds. Then lower it back down.

3.    Leg Press: using a leg press machine, approximately shoulder width apart, place your feet against the footrest. Maintaining your hip position, but bending your knees, lower the weight as far down as possible. Pause briefly at the bottom position. Use your hips to push the weights back up.

4.    Barbell squats: thighs overall are most effectively developed with these exercises. Rest the barbell on your upper back, not your neck.  Point your heels up, standing on the toe balls of your feet. Point your knees slightly outwards and your back straight. Gently lower your thighs until they are parallel with the floor. Pause for 3 seconds and retreat.

5.    Ski squats: around two feet from the wall, place your feet shoulder width apart, and lean your back against it. Bend your knees till they are almost parallel to the floor. In consecutive 10 second halts bend down further 2 inches every time. These are the three positions making one repetition.

Thigh exercises are very beneficial as at times our entire weight rests upon these muscles. Not only are some of the biggest muscles here but the largest bone in the body needs some firm muscular protection around it as well.
