Foods To Avoid After Exercise

The basic objective of exercise is to keep oneself fit and healthy. It requires a lot of determination and hard work. However, exercises when not accompanied by proper planning of meals, negates with all the positive efforts. So, it’s important to have a good choice of food.

Generally, fat burning process begins after the exercise session ends. At the same time, just after the strenuous exercise people feel hungry and want to eat food. Mostly they end up eating quick, ready to eat snack which is mostly high in sugar and carbs.

As a result, it nullifies the essential benefits of the exercise performed. Thus, we see that certain food items when consumed after exercise disrupts the metabolic rate and acts as a hurdle in attaining the fitness goal. The basic foods to avoid eating are:

  • Foods high in carbohydrates, refined sugar
  • Highly processed foods
  • Oily and deep fried foods
  • Foods low in nutrients,vitamins,minerals

Sugary Foods or sugary drinks should be avoided after vigorous exercise. Items like cookies, chocolates, cakes, ready made juices, and aerated drinks, sports drinks etc contains lots of sugar and have a dampening effect on the exercise performed. So, the best option is to avoid eating such sugary foods and instead hydrate with lots of water or chilled unsweetened ice tea.

One should avoid eating refined carbs like white bread, pasta, white rice, ready to eat snacks and other similar foods as they instantly get converted into sugar.

Instead one should eat complex carbs food items like whole grains as well as protein and high fiber foods such as nuts, seeds, meats, fruits, vegetables as they take time to digest and are filling also.

Today’s market is flooded with various options of processed foods. However these food items are not as healthy as natural food items  like wheat grain, pulses, vegetables, milk, fish, meat etc where the body utilises more energy to burn the calories present in these food items. Thus, natural food items helps to maintain an optimum metabolic rate of the body and hence a healthy body.

Deep fried foods are always tempting to eat but are rich source of fat and are therefore considered to be unhealthy food.So, opting for better cooking styles like baking, grilling, steaming etc for your favorite food is always healthier.

It’s very essential to provide body with variety of food items for its normal functioning. This thus provides the body with all the essential nutrients and vitamins. So, eating all types of food occasionally in moderation is fine.
