Importance of Fitness in Elderly
Fitness is important for everyone. In children, it is very important in helping them grow, building their appetite and also strengthening bones and muscles. In youth, it keeps the body fit and free from ailments. In the elderly, it helps preserve the body in better condition.
As we age, the muscles tend to become weaker and more lean. Exercise becomes very important in helping the muscles keep from wearing out, and helps burn the energy more. Exercises are also helpful in preventing you from suffering diseases which can cause degeneration of the body.
Being fit will help you keep the heart and lungs in good shape. The heart needs an impetus to be able to push harder, and at an elderly age, you may need to work harder to provide it. Exercise is a good way. Your lungs will also start supporting you better, and you will notice lowered chances of having fluids collect in the lungs, and find that you will not have respiratory problems.
Your metabolism will be high when you exercise. This is difficult to achieve as you age since all the body functions start to slow down. You can also control your weight easily, and prevent fluids from collecting.
When we age, our dependency on others increases since we lose mobility. Exercises will keep you from slowing down, and you will continue to lead an active life. You will look younger and fitter, and also feel a lot more energized and positive. You will have a better outlook to life, and find that problems like dementia and senility can also be kept at bay.
You will have lowered risks to injuries and infections if you are fit. This will keep you staying much healthier. Exercise can delay or prevent the occurrence of problems which are bone related like osteoporosis. Your joints will also be in much better shape.
It is important to choose the right kind of exercise. You may take up aerobics, although it should only be moderate and not very intensive. You can safely take up slower sports and walking. If you have any particular health problems, make sure you talk to your doctor before you do any exercises.
