Reflexology is often confused as some form of acupressure or a massaging technique. In this technique pressure is applied on certain points of the human body so as to improve health. The lifestyle of today’s generation is changing. These changes in the lifestyle not only increase their stress, but also increase health problems. All this has led to the popularity of reflexology (performed on feet, hands and arms) in various countries like China, Singapore and Thailand. Although reflexology technique does not offer cure from diseases, but it relaxes the body, improve digestive problems, blood circulation, and ease muscular pains and aches.

Reflexologists are given proper training to understand the reflex points on the hands and foot that correspond to different organs of the body. The vital force of our body flows along channels called sen (energy meridians). This energy powers the mental, physical, and emotional processes. When the body is exhausted, this gets blocked. Reflexologists with the use of careful pressure help release blockages and make muscles more receptive to this flow. The technique is designed to facilitate the flow of essential energies. Further, it removes the lymphatic fluid, which releases toxins and dirt blockages. Reflexology also works on the assumption that as humans we respond to touch. Touch releases endorphins that deal with pain and bring a sense of well -being.

The basic principle that works behind this technique is that the entire body from head to toe is connected. The remaining organs will feel a positive benefit by treating a specific area of the hand or foot. Reflexologists use their fingers and thumbs to look for areas of tenderness in the reflexes, reading these as a signal that there is a problem in the corresponding part of the body.

Though everyone is still not fully aware about reflexology and its benefits, the curiosity is definitely there. Some benefits include chronic fatigue, improved flexibility, insomnia, diarrhea, menstrual cramps, female health problems, constipation, pain reduction, improvement in blood flow, back pain, headaches, and relaxation, accelerated physical healing, etc. Reflexology can also help with the extremely unpleasant side-effects of different cancer treatments. Let your body feel the benefits of this newly emerging technique to keep your body healthy.
