Rowing the Boat of Good Health

Most people who take up rowing may take it up as a weekend sport, but it is as good as any aerobic exercise that makes you lose weight. You can burn a lot of calories within an hour by just sitting down. In order to get into the sport, your city should have rowing clubs for the public. You will have to pay a fee to take the boat out.

Rowing cannot be learnt very easily. You need a professional rower to teach you. It is very strenuous for the arms when you are using the oars and your muscles will be sore when you begin to row. Even if you are otherwise very sporty, you will not be able to use the oars for more than four to five minutes. So take it really slow and set up a target for yourself, where you will be able to do fifteen minutes of stroking eventually.

Rowing does not affect your back in any way, and is a very good exercise. For those who do not want to get into the water but experience it indoors using an indoor rowing machine or an ergometer. This will simulate the conditions of rowing along with water depth. This indoor rowing can be very boring and the person tends to lose interest very quickly.

Make sure that the machine is in fron t of a mirror so that you can see what you are doing. Rowing is a repetitive action so make sure you get it right otherwise it will take very long to correct the mistake.

Rowing involves a correct sitting posture where you would need to lean slightly forward and your knees would be towards the chest. This will give you more strength to rotate the arms and push the oars. Pushing the oars would also need  you to fully extend the legs and draw them in again. This will give you more strength. This sport will give you more muscle strength in your arms, but will be working on your legs as well. Your whole stroke and body movement should look very graceful. Make sure your breathing is rhythmic. This will give you a  quick workout in little time as compared to any other sport.
