Tips for Healthy Eating In Kids

During growing phase of childhood, kids need a balanced and nutritious diet. This helps in providing proper growth .So, good eating habits should be inculcated in the kid’s right from the initial years of childhood. However, it’s not as easy as it sounds. The best strategy to fulfill the nutrients is by:

  • Involving kids in small food related tasks
  • Encouraging healthy food and snacks
  • Setting yourself as role model
  • No scolding during dinning time
  • Eating meals with kids

Kids generally love doing their parents job. Its gives them the feeling of involvement. So, the best way is to ask them about their preferences for their meals. Talk to them about the dish you are preparing, its advantages and how it will help them to grow big. This motivates the kids to eat their food. Delegate some kitchen work as per their age. Like, ask them to lay down the dinning table,involve them in packing tiffin’s .Take them to grocery shops, vegetables shops, fruits shop and involve them in shopping.

Its always easier to jump to fast food for meals or snacks. However,parents must make a point to provide their kids with healthier options of food which provide them essential nutrients to grow. For this parents must keep their kitchen updated with healthier options of foods and snacks. Variety is this spice of life. So; parents must be able to provide their kids with large number of healthier options. By doing so, kids will be satisfied and happy and they won’t look for fast food items. One must also try to make them learn the advantages of home cooked food so that later in life, home cooked food becomes their first preference. Parents must also keep ready to eat snacks or food for their kids urgent and untimely needs.

Kids generally pick up their habits from home. They are unaware of the fact that the practices their parents follow is good /bad. So, whatever they see, they try to practice the same. In addition, parents are always the role model for their kids.Hence, it’s extremely important for the parents to practice what they preach. By doing so, half of the battle is already won by parents because kids will automatically start following them. Thus by eating healthy food themselves they set the example for their kids.

It’s always said that while eating food one must be calm and cool and we must try to develop the same habit in our kids too. They should be encouraged to finish their healthy food on their own as per their own need. They should not be forced or bribed to finish their food. Parents must not lose their cool while feeding them instead, motivate them.

Eating food along with the kids is very good practice and should be followed by every family. By doing so, kids develop feel good factor in them. They keep a watch on everybody’s plate and thus come to know about the healthy food concept. It helps the parents to introduce new food items to their kids and they are also able to keep a check on their kid’s healthy diet.
